When Dussehra puja is performed in 2026, and why the timing window matters. We explain the basis for the timings and tell you where to check your local muhurat rather than publishing a number we cannot verify.

The window, the reason it is that window, and an honest answer about what we will not publish.
Dussehra follows Dashami of Shukla Paksha in Ashwin, the tenth day after Navratri begins. The ritual window is set by the tithi and by the position of the moon relative to the lagna for your location — which is why the same festival has a slightly different puja window in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai even though the civil date is the same.
Because of that, we do not publish city-by-city muhurat minutes. Getting a muhurat wrong is a genuinely harmful error — people plan their day, their travel and their leave around it — and we cannot verify every city against a reliable panchang. A number we cannot stand behind is worse than telling you where to look.
For the exact window in your city, check a location-specific panchang or your family’s usual almanac. What we can tell you reliably is the date, the day of the week, whether it is a multi-day observance, and where the date itself differs between regions — all of which is below.
Counting down to Dussehra 2026
Your local time · Tuesday 20 October 2026
Dussehra (Vijayadashami) falls on Tuesday 20 October 2026, the day after Maha Navami in the Shardiya Navratri cycle.
It marks Rama's victory over Ravana and, in the Devi tradition, Durga's victory over Mahishasura after nine nights of battle. Both stories are about the defeat of evil by good.
Yes — it is one of the three most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar for a new beginning, along with Akshaya Tritiya and Diwali. Vehicle purchases, house-warmings, and starting a course of study are all common on this day.
Ayudha Puja is the worship of tools, machinery and vehicles, observed on Maha Navami (the day before Dussehra) in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Equipment is cleaned, decorated with kumkum and flowers, and worshipped.
