The window, the reason it is that window, and an honest answer about what we will not publish.
Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti follows 7 Poush in the Nanakshahi calendar, usually late December or early January. The ritual window is set by the tithi and by the position of the moon relative to the lagna for your location — which is why the same festival has a slightly different puja window in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai even though the civil date is the same.
Because of that, we do not publish city-by-city muhurat minutes. Getting a muhurat wrong is a genuinely harmful error — people plan their day, their travel and their leave around it — and we cannot verify every city against a reliable panchang. A number we cannot stand behind is worse than telling you where to look.
For the exact window in your city, check a location-specific panchang or your family’s usual almanac. What we can tell you reliably is the date, the day of the week, whether it is a multi-day observance, and where the date itself differs between regions — all of which is below.
Counting down to Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2026
Your local time · Sunday 27 December 2026
Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti falls in late December 2026, on 7 Poush in the Nanakshahi calendar. Check the local gurdwara for the exact date, as some observances follow the traditional Bikrami date.
Guru Gobind Singh founded the Khalsa in 1699, compiled the Dasam Granth, and declared the Guru Granth Sahib the eternal Guru, ending the line of human Gurus. His birth anniversary is the second most widely observed Gurpurab after Guru Nanak Jayanti.
They are the same observance. Gurpurab is the Punjabi term used for all Sikh Guru birth and death anniversaries; Jayanti is the Hindi and Sanskrit term for a birth anniversary. Prakash Parva is another name for the same day.
