Bathe the tulsi plant, drape it in a new cloth, and decorate with a small mangalsutra, bangles, and a flower garland. Build a small canopy around the vrindavan with four sugarcane stalks at the corners.
The tulsi is given away as the bride. In many households this mirrors the household's own wedding rituals, with kumkum, turmeric and rice offered.
An amla branch representing Vishnu, or a Shaligram stone, is brought to the tulsi in a small procession, and the marriage is sealed with a mangalsutra and kumkum.
A full vegetarian and wedding-style meal is cooked and offered, then distributed. Light lamps around the tulsi vrindavan in the evening, and in many households with more than one married couple, the tulsi marriage role-plays the household's own wedding.
Aarti to the married tulsi with the whole family present, followed by the distribution of sweets. This closes the ritual.

The tulsi is decorated and the marriage performed at home, with lamps around the vrindavan in the evening. The day is closely tied to the end of Chaturmas and the resumption of weddings.
Observed as Tulsi Vivah with the household marriage ritual, and in Bengal it follows Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which itself is a major fasting day.
