The window, the reason it is that window, and an honest answer about what we will not publish.
Ganesh Chaturthi follows Shukla Chaturthi in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. The ritual window is set by the tithi and by the position of the moon relative to the lagna for your location — which is why the same festival has a slightly different puja window in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai even though the civil date is the same.
Because of that, we do not publish city-by-city muhurat minutes. Getting a muhurat wrong is a genuinely harmful error — people plan their day, their travel and their leave around it — and we cannot verify every city against a reliable panchang. A number we cannot stand behind is worse than telling you where to look.
For the exact window in your city, check a location-specific panchang or your family’s usual almanac. What we can tell you reliably is the date, the day of the week, whether it is a multi-day observance, and where the date itself differs between regions — all of which is below.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2026
Ganesh Chaturthi begins on Monday 14 September 2026. Anant Chaturdashi, the tenth day and the main immersion day, follows ten days later.
Households commonly keep the Ganpati for one and a half days, five days, seven days or the full ten days until Anant Chaturdashi. Community mandals usually install for all ten.
Clay and shadu mati idols dissolve within hours in water. Plaster of Paris does not, and the pigments used on many of them contain lead and mercury, which is why immersion is a major annual source of heavy metal pollution in Mumbai's water bodies. Most municipal corporations now require clay.
Durva grass (twenty-one blades), red hibiscus, modak, coconut, banana, jaggery and akshat. Modak is considered Ganesha's favourite, which is why the festival is inseparable from it.
