In the order a household actually does it, including what to set up beforehand.
Holika Dahan
Wood and cow-dung cakes are stacked around a central pole and tied with a red thread. A coconut and wheat ears are placed at the top. Families circle the pyre with water and akshat before it is lit.
Holika Dahan
The pyre is lit after sunset, typically in the Pradosh or Nishita window. Offerings of gur, sattu and wheat are made into the fire, and everyone walks around it. Take a little ash home as a blessing.
Dhulandi
Start with gulal on the feet of elders, then turmeric or gulal on the forehead. Colour play with water is usually reserved for the middle of the day.

The spiritual home of Holi. Lathmar Holi at Barsana runs days before the main festival, with women striking men with sticks in a re-enactment of Radha's play; Nandgaon replies the next day. Phoolon Wali Holi at Banke Bihari temple and Widow's Holi at Vrindavan are newer, well-documented additions.
Holika Dahan on the eve, then a loud water-and-colour Holi the next morning. Neighbourhood colonies often pool resources for the bonfire.
Celebrated as Dol Purnima or Dola Purnima — a Radha-Krishna swing festival with processions and abir applied gently, rather than the street colour play of the north.
Holi is followed immediately by Hola Mohalla at Anandpur Sahib, the day after, where Nihang Sikhs perform gatka and display horsemanship. It is a martial and cultural festival, not a colour festival.
Celebrated as Phakuwa or Doul Utsav, centred on Barpeta Satra, where the festival lasts several days with devotional song and dance rather than colour play.
Holi is muted in much of the south; Karnataka's coastal and northern districts observe it as Kamanna Habba or Holi more visibly than Tamil Nadu does.
