The window, the reason it is that window, and an honest answer about what we will not publish.
Republic Day follows 26 January, the date the Constitution of India came into force in 1950. The ritual window is set by the tithi and by the position of the moon relative to the lagna for your location — which is why the same festival has a slightly different puja window in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai even though the civil date is the same.
Because of that, we do not publish city-by-city muhurat minutes. Getting a muhurat wrong is a genuinely harmful error — people plan their day, their travel and their leave around it — and we cannot verify every city against a reliable panchang. A number we cannot stand behind is worse than telling you where to look.
For the exact window in your city, check a location-specific panchang or your family’s usual almanac. What we can tell you reliably is the date, the day of the week, whether it is a multi-day observance, and where the date itself differs between regions — all of which is below.

Republic Day 2026
Republic Day is on 26 January every year, and in 2026 it falls on a Monday. It is a national holiday across India.
The Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950. The date was chosen deliberately because 26 January 1930 was when the Indian National Congress first declared Purna Swaraj — complete independence.
It begins with the Prime Minister laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, followed by the President's address, a military march past with equipment displays, tableaux from every state, schoolchildren's performances, and a flypast that ends with the Amrit formation.
Beating Retreat is held at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi on 29 January, three days after Republic Day, and it marks the formal end of the Republic Day celebrations.
