How Akshaya Tritiya is actually celebrated

Specific practices rather than a general mood.

Buying gold, silver or property — the largest gold-buying day of the year after Dhanteras.
Booking weddings and starting new businesses, since no separate muhurat is considered necessary on this day.
Worshipping Lakshmi, Vishnu and Kubera, and reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama.
Donating to charity, particularly food, given the Sudama story.
Buying a new vehicle or appliance.
In Jain households, performing special charity and offering sugarcane juice.
In Gujarat and Maharashtra, buying gold in the form of small coins or jewellery rather than as an investment vehicle.
Offering barley, rice and sattu, and eating sattu as the day's first food in some regions.

Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan
The strongest commercial observance. Jewellers launch their annual schemes, and gold, silver and property purchases peak. In Rajasthan it is Akha Teej, an important day for weddings.

Muhurat trading on the stock exchanges is held on Akshaya Tritiya and Diwali. Gold buying and new business registrations both peak.
Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh
Observed as Akshaya Tritiyai, with Lakshmi puja, gold purchases, and the start of new ventures. In Karnataka the day is considered auspicious for the first entry in new account books.
Bihar, UP, Bengal
Akha Teej, with sattu and barley offered, and the day treated as auspicious for weddings — this is one of the days when weddings are held without consulting a separate muhurat.
Punjab, Haryana, Delhi
Gold and property purchases peak, and weddings are common. Charitable feeding is widely practised.
