The window, the reason it is that window, and an honest answer about what we will not publish.
Eid al-Fitr follows 1 Shawwal, the day after the sighting of the Shawwal moon. The ritual window is set by the tithi and by the position of the moon relative to the lagna for your location — which is why the same festival has a slightly different puja window in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai even though the civil date is the same.
Because of that, we do not publish city-by-city muhurat minutes. Getting a muhurat wrong is a genuinely harmful error — people plan their day, their travel and their leave around it — and we cannot verify every city against a reliable panchang. A number we cannot stand behind is worse than telling you where to look.
For the exact window in your city, check a location-specific panchang or your family’s usual almanac. What we can tell you reliably is the date, the day of the week, whether it is a multi-day observance, and where the date itself differs between regions — all of which is below.

Eid al-Fitr 2026
Eid al-Fitr 2026 is expected around 20 March, the day after the Shawwal moon is sighted. Because the date depends on the actual sighting, it may fall a day earlier or later, and it is announced locally rather than published in advance.
A fixed amount — traditionally a measure of staple food, commonly given as its cash value — that must be given by every household member before the Eid prayer. Its purpose is to ensure that poorer households can also celebrate.
Meethi means sweet, and the day is dominated by sweet dishes — sheer khurma, sewaiyan and other mithai. It is distinguished from Eid al-Adha, which is the meat-centred festival.
Eidi is the money or gift given to children on Eid al-Fitr, traditionally by elders during the day's visits. There is no fixed amount, and it is given in cash or in a decorated envelope.
