The window, the reason it is that window, and an honest answer about what we will not publish.
Milad-un-Nabi follows 12 Rabi al-Awwal, the birth date of the Prophet Muhammad. The ritual window is set by the tithi and by the position of the moon relative to the lagna for your location — which is why the same festival has a slightly different puja window in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai even though the civil date is the same.
Because of that, we do not publish city-by-city muhurat minutes. Getting a muhurat wrong is a genuinely harmful error — people plan their day, their travel and their leave around it — and we cannot verify every city against a reliable panchang. A number we cannot stand behind is worse than telling you where to look.
For the exact window in your city, check a location-specific panchang or your family’s usual almanac. What we can tell you reliably is the date, the day of the week, whether it is a multi-day observance, and where the date itself differs between regions — all of which is below.

Milad-un-Nabi 2026
Milad-un-Nabi 2026 is expected around 26 August, on 12 Rabi al-Awwal. Because the Islamic calendar is lunar, the date shifts earlier each year and depends on the moon sighting.
No. Many South Asian Muslim communities observe it with processions and gatherings. Several reformist movements, including the Deobandi and Ahl-i-Hadith traditions, do not mark it as a festival, holding that public celebration of a birthday is not established in early Islamic practice. Both positions exist in India.
Barawafat is a South Asian name for Milad-un-Nabi, referring to the illumination of homes and mosques on the day. It is the name most commonly used in North India.
Moulood is the Kerala tradition of reciting the narrative of the Prophet's birth and life, typically in Arabi-Malayalam. It is the characteristic form the observance takes in Kerala and among Malabar Muslims.
