Day 1
Install the kalash and sow barley in a clay pot within the Ghatasthapana muhurat. Read the panchang for the correct window — it is narrow on some years.
Day 8–9
Invite young girls for Kanya Pujan and serve puri, halwa and chana. Perform a havan on Navami and distribute the sprouted barley as prasad.

Ritual order genuinely varies. Where it does, this is the difference.
A home and fasting festival. Ghatasthapana, nine days of vrat, Kanya Pujan on Ashtami or Navami, and Ram Navami to close.
Gudi Padwa on day one, with the gudi hoisted at windows, neem-jaggery prasad, and the new year greeting. Navratri itself is quieter than in autumn.
Ugadi on day one, with the Ugadi pachadi — a dish combining all six tastes — cooked and offered first. In Karnataka it is the Samvatsaradi new year.
